I love to play golf in the best golf course here in the Philippines. I love the greens, the wind, the sun, and nature. I felt that golf courses make me close to nature. But still, golf courses are not exempted to natural disasters like rains, earthquake or even sinkholes!
Everybody hates sinkholes (except for archaeologist I guess) especially if it happens on your property like your lawn. Sinkholes are a depression or hole in the ground caused by some form of a collapse of the surface layer. It involves a natural process of erosion. These can really destroy your property. In May 2015 a collapse occurred after heavy rainfalls in Ozark Mountain County - a physio-graphic and geologic highland region of the central United States. This collapse results in the creation of a very large sinkhole spanning 70 feet across and running 40 feet deep. This does not happen in a bare land but rather in a golf course in Missouri. What’s interesting is that the owner of the property did not treat this as a catastrophe but rather an opportunity. Watch this news. Owner Johnny Morris decided to dig deeper, much deeper that they saw old caves and cool rock formations. He chose to explore in the hopes of finding a secret passageway and uncovering a massive system underneath the golf course and surrounding area. For him, it was a treasure hunt and he’s hoping to discover one day a natural wonder lying below. He believes that the best is yet to come.
The exploration still continues unto this day and Mr. Morris is very excited about the chance they have to find a great cavern. Find a cave or not is no problem to him because the incredible formations they already uncovered have made their effort worthwhile.
